I’m not sure whether I need to lodge my tax return before the 31 October deadline?

ANSWER

If you use a registered tax agent and your lodgement history is good (ie not late with returns in previous years) then you almost certainly have access to lodgement deadlines that extend beyond 31 October. But, if you know someone who lodges their own returns via the ATO service then this 31 October deadline applies.

If they are going to struggle to make this deadline, they need to at least be added to the lodgement list of a registered tax agent by 31 October to access extended deadlines.
