When do I have to declare dividends from my shares? – BBQ Talk 32

When do I have to declare dividends from my shares?

Ans (Debbie from Affinitas)

You have to declare your dividends from your shares each year in your tax return. They are declared in the year they are paid. If you participate in the dividend reinvestment scheme (where you get more shares instead of physically receiving the money) you still have to declare the dividends as income.

Be sure to keep your dividend statements throughout the year to give to your consultant when completing your tax return.
